Subaru Outback offers two engine options depending on your needs. Subaru Outback AWD Sport XT and Outback AWD Touring XT – with the extra power, more torque, and increased acceleration of the 2.4-litre turbocharged Boxer engine – have an impressive 2,400kg* braked towing capacity. For those with a lighter load to tow and an eye on fuel efficiency, the 2.5-litre Boxer engine provides a 2,000kg* braked towing capacity.

 

Both powerful and reliable engines work in tandem with core Subaru technologies and the Subaru Global Platform (SGP). This streamlined framework features a rigid suspension base, which helps maintain ideal tyre contact and grip, delivering responsive steering, confident cornering and optimum control.

All-round visibility in the Outback

The Subaru Outback is designed to minimise blind spots, reduce line of sight obstructions, and provide excellent visibility in all directions. Body pillar widths are minimised wherever possible, without compromising safety, to increase windscreen area and visibility. The front is designed to give you better awareness of the Outback’s dimensions, while reversing visibility is given special attention to provide peace of mind in driveway situations and around busy school zones.

Safety Systems

Subaru's Vision Assist

Subaru’s Vision Assist is advanced technology that gives you greater awareness of the world around you.

 

Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB)

Detects obstacles behind you and alerts you when there’s a risk of collision. Plus, it can even step in to apply the brakes in the event that you don’t.

 

Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)

Features sensors that let you know when there’s something in your blind spots to help make lane changes safer.

 

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

Warns you when another car is approaching from the side whilst reversing – cutting-edge technology designed to help keep your family safe.

 

Distraction warning

Subaru DMS* recognises that at times the driver may be distracted, which is why a buzzer alert and visual display will warn the driver if their gaze continues to wander outside a set range.

 


Dozing or drowsiness warning

The DMS* uses near infrared LEDs and a camera to observe the driver’s eyes and recognise when their attention is waning or if they start to fall to sleep. An alert can warn them, and give a gentle reminder to refocus on the road ahead or take a break if necessary.

 


Facial recognition

The intelligent facial recognition system can identify up to five separate drivers and then automatically personalise the cabin to their preferences – adjusting a range of settings including the climate control and Multi-Information Display (MID) screen.  ​

Safety Systems

Subaru Driver Monitoring System*

Watching out for you, this innovative system monitors the driver’s face for signs of fatigue or distraction and provides both audible and visual warning.

It’s also clever enough to recognise the faces of up to five registered drivers, automatically syncing each driver’s personal settings – including air con, seat position, and door mirror angles.

Safety Designs

Subaru Global Platform

Safety starts with an improved chassis and a body frame reinforced to increase frontal, side and rear crash safety. Designated crumple zones are designed to direct impact energy away from the reinforced passenger safety cell, while SRS* airbags – including dual front, dual front side, dual curtain, driver’s knee, and front passenger seat cushion are designed to protect occupants. The Boxer engine sits low in the engine bay and is designed to help protect occupants by sliding below the cabin – not into it – in the event of a severe frontal collision.
